mother's arms. good evening, everyone. i'm carolyn johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. the mother is scared, but the toddler is okay. it happened in east san jose. thomas roman is there live to explain exactly what happened. thomas? >> dan, we spoke to the child's father who told us he is not going to comment. he will let san jose police deal with this attempted kidnapping. the mother basically had a tug of war with this suspect in order to save her child. san jose police received a call at 5:37. according to police the two-year-old was playing in this front yard here in east san jose. toys belonging to the children in the home are now gathered by the home's front door. the child's mother told police a stranger came up to where her daughter was playing and made a comment about the child. the comment made the mother uncomfortable. as she picked the girl up, the stranger grabbed the girl's legs and tried to pull the child away from her. after a short struggle with the man the mother managed to pull her child away and run into the house where she called police. the suspect ran down pavin drive

. good evening. i'm dan ashley. this is obviously a big blow to boeing. the f.a.a. says united cannot fly the planes effective immediately. the latest scare after a flight from western japan to tokyo was forced to make an emergency landing when someone smelled smoke in the cockpit in the cab bin. the emergency landing convinced two japanese airlines to ground all of their boeing 787s and because of that some bay area travelers faced confusion today trying to fly to asia. amy holyfield has more from san jose international. >> passengers hoping to climb aboard the new dreamliner in san jose instead were told the flights have been grounded. the ana airlines spent time with each traveler getting them booked on other flights out of other airports including sfo. they also provided shuttles to the new flights and hotel rooms if it necessary. >> actually we don't know what happened but as long as the problem is solved it is fine. >> japan airlines and ana decided to ground the new 787s known as the dreamliner hes after the emergency landing in western japan because of battery problems. this is on

-old in you. >> good evening i'm dan ashley. breaking news in san jose. miss say man tried to take a two-year-old girl right out of her mother's arms. this happened tonight on die 0kawrt. little girl with her family in front of a house. man walked up and made some kind of weird comment. spooked the mother. mom pick up her daughter and the man grabbed the girl's legs trying to pull her away. he did in the succeed thankfully. prison describe hill as hispanic adult male between 20 and 30 years old. wearing red baseball hat blue jean and light shirt with yellow stripe stripes. mother also said he smelled like automotive oil. san jose police are canvassing the area in an attempt to locate this guy or at least perhaps some witnesses will stay on top of it. this develop story. >> vote expected tonight could bring one of the nation top cops to help reign in the violence on the streets of oakland. city council will have to spend 250,000 dollars to bring in william brat as crime fighting consultant. he was police chief in los angeles and new york both. he's credit wtd bringing down crime
